To commemorate the 16th China Handicapped Persons Day of May 21, Chengdu government is to take measures to improve road facilities for the handicapped. An investigation was conducted which shows that most of the city's sidewalks for the blind are not functional due to poor management and design. In order to build a friendly environment for the handicapped people, Chengdu is drafting measures to promote management and building of "no barrier" public facilities. In another development, the Jinjiang District held an activity in benefit for the handicapped on Thursday during which all kinds of donations and services from medical care to legal aid were provided to those handicapped persons in the city.
