Baoguang Temple(Monastery of Divine Light), 
in the north of Xindu county, is an active Buddhist temple with five halls and 16 courtyards surrouded by bamboo.
Founded in the 9th century, the monastery was destroyed and reconstructed in 17th century. Among the treasures here are a white jade Buddha from Myanmar, Ming and Qing paintings, callinggraphy, a stone tablet engraved with 1,000 Buddhist figures(AD540) and ceremonial musical instruments. Unfortunately,most of the more valuable items are locked asway and required special permission to be viewed.
Setting out from Chengdu City to the northern suburbs, about half an hour by bus, you can see an ancient temple surrounded by red walls under exuberant trees, which is the renowned Baoguang Temple, situated 18 kilometers (about 11.18 miles) north of Chengdu City. In the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), Emperor Xizong had ever seen the divine light shining out from the tower within the temple, so the name of temple changed into Bao (divine) guang (light) Temple.
Through the gate, the main structures are Shanmen Hall, Tianwang Hall, Dagoba, Seven-Buddha Hall, Da-Xiong-Bao-Dian and Sutra-Preservation Pavilion, etc. which were majestically built in large scale. More than 400 pillars supported the arrangement of one tower, five halls and sixteen courtyards. The most exquisite architecture in the temple is considered that of Arhat Hall - the pearl of oriental sculpture art, in which are four doorways and many statues carved by a famous sculpture master of Sichuan Province. Another attractive feature of Baoguang Temple is the abundant richness of The Three Treasures, Buddhist relics, Night-blooming Cereus and Beiye Sutra. Besides, tourists can appreciate calligraphies of many celebrities in Chinese history.
With a long history, majestic architecture, solemn statues, tranquil environment and completed tourist establishments, Baoguang Temple welcomes tourists from all over the world.
