The Elephant Bathing Pool, originally named Chuxi Pavilion. It was only a summerhouse named Chuxi Summerhouse in the Ming Dynasty, later was rebuilt to a nunnery – Chuxi Nunnery.  In the 38th Qing-Kangxi Time (1699), Zen Master Hong Chuan put up a temple on its basis, and then the temple was expanded in the 1st Qing-Qianlong (1736) by Monk Yue Zheng, changed the name to Elephant Bathing Pool (also called Tianhua Zen Court) for the small pool in front of the temple where Puxian has washed his elephant in tales. Kwan-yin Hall, Laughing Buddha Hall and Great Hero Hall were constructed in this region in the Xianfeng and Tongzhi Times.  And Great Hero Hall had a reconstruction from Monk Bian Xiang in the 33rd Minguo (1944), and had two repairs in 1953 and 1984.  During the repair in 1984, the temple was added with more views of Shone Moon House behind Kwan-yin Hall and a guesthouse, became an important protected temple of China.

In the area five Chinese miles higher, Superior Apodora from West Domain raised a Mahayana temple named Huacheng Temple while he performed ceremonies in Emei Mount; For the temple was built with wood hulls, it had the alias “Wood Hulls Palace”.  At the even higher point, there used to sit Baiyun Temple (Baiyun Palace, Yuntan Palace) put up in the Ming Dynasty.

A story is told that the god of Universal Benevolence gives a bath to his white elephant in the hexagon pool of the temple every time he passes by here, hence the name "Elephant Bathing Pool". In the temple, stand the Hall of Mercy Goddess, the Laughing Buddha Hall, and the Great Hero Hall. The temple has been pointed to be an important state temple.
